Musings with Mini Molnars (Volume 2)

November 2, 2020 (I had my eyes dilated earlier at the optometrist and was sitting in the recliner because it was making me dizzy).

Briella: Mommy, do you need anything?
Me: No, I'm okay but thank you.
Briella: A warm-up bear? Some hot water? A whiskey?
Me: A whiskey?!!
Briella: You said it's medicine and that's what they always give people on Little House on the Prairie.

November 10, 2020
(I made hotdogs for dinner. Micah has recently eaten gluten)
Micah: Mommy, can I have one of those things. Umm, you know!
Me: Have what?
Micah: [getting visibly angry and frustrated] YOU KNOW! ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT YOU PUT AROUND YOUR HOTDOG. WHAT'S IT CALLED?
Me: (starting to answer him)
Micah: [interrupts me] You know--A hotdog strap!

December 15 & 16 (two days in a row of this prayer)
Micah: "Dear Yord (Lord), please keep Daddy safe. Please help him not to get in a car accident and don't let him to go to jail."

January 22, 2021
Briella [sweetly admiring me after making them all lunch]
"Mommy, your smile is so bright it knocks off your sunglasses."

***same day***
Gianna (reading to me for her school lesson: "Love your neighbors as you love yourselves."
Gianna read it: "Love your n, nee, neighbors as you love your slaves."

January 23, 2021
[eating dinner together as a family]
Micah: {very seriously but with a smile on his face}
"Mommy, you're a squirrel."
Me: Okay...(thinking, oooookay?)
[a very long delay]
Micah: I mean, you're a fox.
Me: awwww (with chuckling)

January 25, 2021
Briella: (talking to us about her magazine subscription from Grandma Patty)
"These prescriptions (subscriptions 🀣) have been great for all of us!"

January 26, 2021
Micah: "Hey Mom! Look! (moving his eyebrows up and down)
I can see my elbow-brows moving up and down."

February 1, 2021
Micah: "What's that noise?" (Jim was snow blowing)
Gianna: "Let me see...
Oh, it's just Daddy mowing the driveway."

February 3, 2021
(Briella excitedly talking about the next episode of Full House)
Briella: "Uncle Jesse wants another baby. Can a man tell a woman to have a baby? How does a baby go into your belly? Can you just say for it to happen? Tell me, Mom. How does a baby start in your stomach?
Me: [major hesitation and thinking of the right words]....
.....
Well, first off, your body has to change into a woman. Right now, you're not a woman. When you begin to grow boobies, I mean, breasts--that's the correct word, then you are in the changing stages of becoming a woman. The next phase is when your body starts to have a monthly cycle.
Briella: What are those pads you use for? Is that what you're talking about? What comes out?
Me: The name for what comes out is Mmmmmmm
[she interrupts excitedly]
Briella: MILDEW! Is it mildew?
Me: Well, close, it does start with an M, but it's called your menstrual cycle.
Briella: What comes out? Is it blood?
Me: Umm, well, yes
Briella: (Grossed out face)

February 4, 2021
(teaching the kids the Ten Commandments this week)
Me: "Thou shalt not Covet" Covet means to want what others have.
What do you think that means?
Briella: "It's just like the song, 'Jessie's Girl' when he wanted his girlfriend.
Me: Yes, sadly, that is true.

February 5, 2021
{we've been doing a lot of sledding this week and kids have been building and jumping ramps.
Micah: (talking to Jim) "Daddy! I jumped ten feet on my ramp!"
Jim: 10 feet?! Really?
Micah: YES! 10 feet!
Jim: "If you jumped 10 feet on your ramp, how big do you think my popper is?"
Micah: 2 feet

February 24, 2021
We were all watching Ramona & Beezus and there was a scene that the cat dies.
Micah: {looking around and eyes looked pink}
"I think I'm going to cry!"
(I'm not writing this because I think it's funny but because it showcases his sensitive side and I loved that!)

March 3, 2021
Once again Micah asked for a hotdog "With one of those things on it. You know...what's it called again?... a strap?"

March 8, 2021
Micah (to a friend): "My Daddy trimmed (shot) a raccoon." 🀦

March 9, 2021
[we went bowling on my birthday]
Briella (to Micah as he was heading for his first turn)
"Go Micah, go! Break a bone!" (break a leg?)
Jim: NOOOOOO, don't say that!

March 10, 2021
Gianna: I just don't like a lot of spinach in my omelet. I don't like the way it sits on my taste buds.
Me: Laughing
Micah: Gianna! Gianna? Spinach is good. I like spinach in my omelet. Mom, Gianna doesn't like it on her taste bugs.

*later that night at bedtime Jim was on a trip*
Micah: Mom, I love you. I wish I could marry you,...but Daddy already married you."

March 11, 2021
Briella: "Mom, please have another baby! I want you to have another baby."
Me: "I'm too old."
Briella: "No, you're not."How do you even have a baby anyway? Do you kiss and that's how you have a baby? Cameron says if you kiss for 3 hours straight that you get pregnant."
Me: So, is that why you asked if Daddy and Mommy kissed for more than an hour the night we went to the treehouse cabin?
Briella: Yes. Did you?

March 16, 2021
Micah: "Mom, do you even poop?
Me: Yes
Micah: Really? You do? Are you for real?

5 minutes later...

Micah was heading outside to play with Cam, Cora, and sisters.
Me: "Micah, please be nice."
Micah: Don't worry Mom, I'll be as nice as you." πŸ˜πŸ’–πŸ€©

March 19, 2021
Micah: (holding the remote in his hand looking at the TV show)
"Hmmm, there's lots of seasonings (seasons) to pick.

**same day**
Gianna: "So, will my sweet tooth fall out or stay as a baby tooth forever?" 😍

March 30, 2021

“Mommy, I put a little foretell in the story.” (as she shows me her homemade book.)

March 31, 2021
[sitting inside at DQ after Gianna had two teeth extracted for a celebratory lunch]
Worker delivers ice cream sundaes first and none of the kids asked to eat them first, but I looked at Jim and said, "Should we let them first?"
Briella: "Let's do an awkward meal." (she meant to say backward)

April 1, 2021
Micah: "Mom, you are the lightning of my life."
"Mom, I'm the youngest so I will die last. You will die first. I will miss you when you die. I hope you don't die on Christmas. Then you won't get any gifts. (looking at me with concern that he was hurting my feelings saying that he says--) Don't worry, you won't die on Christmas."

April 15, 2021
Micah: Mommy, I love you. Even when I say I don't love you, I love you.
πŸ€”

***same day, different time***
[He and Gianna laid out all our living room blankets and pillows all over the floor which is a huge pet peeve of mine because they have THEIR OWN ROOM {playroom} with pillows and blankets.]
Me: "Please come in here and clean up this mess!"
Micah: I bet you can't clean it better than me?
Me: (thinking to myself I just got played by a 5 year old)

April 19, 2021
[pulling into the parking lot of Mexican restaurant, close to a fitness center.]

Micah: Why is that man walking and not going anywhere?

April 19, 2021
Briella: "How old do you have to be to drink alcohol?"
Me: 21
Briella: "What about champagne? Is that alcohol?
Me: Yes
Briella: "Can I drink champagne?
Me: No
Briella: "Why not? Marsha talks about champagne on the Brady Bunch. Carol even says she'll help."
Me: Briella, there is nooooo way Carol is okay with Marsha drinking champagne on the Brady Bunch. I'm sure that you didn't follow the show from start to finish correctly."
Jim: Explain the whole context
Briella: {explains the show}
Jim/Me: You mean CAMPAIGN, not champagne.

April 20, 2021
{I was sitting on the back porch working on the kids' hymn medley video and out of nowhere Micah says:}
"Hi Mommy, I love you. You are the most beautiful Mommy in the whole world."
Me: (totally shocked and touched). AWWWWwww, Micah, that is so so sweet. I love you so very much my handsome boy.
*****5-10 minutes later****
Micah pushes Gianna. He continues to be mean and he is told to sit on the steps. He proceeds to walk away and not listen to his consequence directions so I walked off the porch and took him by the arm into the house. I told him to go to his room. While stomping upstairs he says,
"Never mind. You are NOT the most beautiful Mommy in the whole world."

April 21, 2021
Gianna: "Mommy, I want to watch the Captain Underpants movie, NOT the tales. You know, the movie, Captain Underpants the EFF-ic tale?
Me: Which one? (asking on purpose to see if she'd say it again)
Gianna: "Captain Underpants, the EFF-ic tale."
Me: πŸ‘Œ

April 24, 2021
Micah: "Mommy, would you want a stroller that has a hotdog on the top with a string on it?
Me: (laughing hysterically) Ummm, no?
Micah: Me neither. That would look weird.
Me: (still laughing) Yes, I agree.

April 29, 2021
{Micah had received a belated birthday card in the mail and I threw away the envelope it came inside of because, well, I didn't think it was a big deal.}
Micah: Where's that, um, thing, um...card box [envelope]?

**later that evening while eating his bedtime snack***
Micah: When I grow up, I am going to buy a vacation house.
Me: That's awesome! That's a great idea.
Micah: But it doesn't matter, you'll be dead by then.

May 4, 2021
Jim: Keep _____ in your prayers. She was having bleeding.
Briella: Where does the bleeding come from?
Me: Your lady parts
Briella: ewwww [with nervous laughter]
Don't you just wear a paddy (pad) for that?
Jim: oh my goodness.
Briella: What? That's what Mommy told me.
Me: A 'paddy'?
It's called a PAD, silly.

***later that night before bed***
Briella [deeply examining my face closely]
Me: {feeling self conscious}
What are you looking at?
Briella: I'm just looking to see if you have chicken feet
Me: I do
Briella: I don't see any
Me: (laughing)
Jim: Walk away, Briella. Say no more
Briella: Oh, wait, now I see it!
Those lines are called chicken feet, right?

May 5, 2021
Micah: What's the name of that restaurant we went to today?
Appleberries?
Me: You're so cute. It's Applebees

May 5, 2021
Kids and I were loudly singing "The Blessing" by Kari Jobe in the car as we were driving. It was a totally touching moment.
Micah sang it as:

May 9, 2021
Jim: Please tell me you didn't leave your crap in the toilet and you flushed it.
Me & Briella (giggling)
Jim: Stop laughing, this isn't funny.
Briella: But Mommy is laughing too!
Me: Sorry...I didn't realize you meant a poop when you said cracker and it made me laugh hearing the word, 'crap'.
Micah: Gianna! Briella left a cracker in the toilet.

***later that evening***
{I was gathering up dirty clothes and realized all of the clean clothes that I had put into Gianna's room this morning were in the dirty clothes.}
Me: Gianna, why are your clean clothes in the dirty hamper?
Gianna: Huh? What do you mean?
Me: The clean clothes that were on your dresser are in the dirty hamper, smelling clean and fresh. You never wore them today so why are they in the dirty hamper?
Gianna: Huh, hmmm, um, well, I didn't know what else to do with them.
Me: You mean, hang them up or put them in your dressers?
Gianna: Yeah, I didn't know what you wanted me to do with them.
Me: ????????

Gianna was reading a Puppies book and when she was supposed to read the word "breed", she would say "brand". The brand (breed) of dog is a_________

Briella: He's really small. Do you think he's vegan?

****later at bedtime***
[talking about marriage and fathers walking their daughters down the aisle]
Briella: I definitely want Daddy to walk me down the aisle and I want you to be one of the ladies next to me. You know, the one right next to me.

[I just about cried.]

May 24, 2021
Briella: Hey Mom, I was thinking that if you homeschool us again next year that you should teach us Italian.
Me: I think someone needs to teach me Italian first. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜œ

May 24, 2021
Micah: Poop! Poop! Poop!
Me: Why do you keep saying poop?
Micah: Remember that time you said it?
Me: Yes, but what about saying something pretty like flower, rainbow, daffodil?
Micah: Okay!
Daffodil poop, flower poop, rainbow poop
Me: You're too much!

June 1, 2021
(Jim was working on toilets and asked the girls to clean their toilets before he went upstairs)
Gianna: DONE!
Me: Toilet all clean?
Gianna: YEP, I infected it all by myself.

June 23, 2021
Gianna: Mommy, Micah talked about riding the bonker (bumper) cars all morning and then only rode them once.
Me: (wanting her to repeat it again to make sure I heard correctly) He only rode what once?
Gianna: The bonker cars.

July 11, 2021
(Briella talking about being baptized)
Gianna: I want to get baptism-ed too!

July 18, 2021
Gianna: Hurry, go get the fly slapper (swatter).

July 26, 2021  (A Day at Portage Lakes)
Gianna: “Here Mom, let me hold the colder for you because you’re always holding the colder and I want to help you. (the cooler is “the colder” 🀣).

Micah: “Mom! Mommy! It’s a miMMow! Look! A family of miMMow’s are swimming by my feet!” πŸ˜†
Briella: “I don’t usually scruff up sandwiches like this, but I’m starving and it’s good!”

August 10, 2021
Gianna: “What’s the name of that ice cream stuff again…Crotch? Crooch? I can't remember. (she was thinking of: crunch coat)

August 11, 2021
Micah: “Can we go to town square to get more of that ice cream?” (Bittingers)
Me: Town square?!

Briella (to the Roto Rooter Tech): “Wednesdays we like to rest our weary wheels after babysitting our cousin on Tuesday’s.”

August 25, 2021
(Gianna reading slowly the root beer label): "MMMMMmmmmm, ROT beer."
Me: [in stitches hysterically laughing]...You mean, ROOT beer?

Micah: "I want to use my tickets to buy some root beard."

September 19, 2021
Briella: "Mommy, come watch how fast I type. Mrs. Kaufman says I'm the fastest typer in class. I type 19 miles per hour!"

September 20, 2021
Daddy: We knew you were a boy, Micah, because they showed us your teeny tiny penis on the ultrasound.
Micah: laughing
Gianna: I had a penis when I was a baby.
[everyone rolling in laughter}
Gianna: I DID! I had a penis. I'll show you (and she runs to show us the picture in her baby book...of her umbilical cord attached to her stomach upon delivery.) 🀦

October 2021
Micah: I don't want Gianna to see my pimples
Me: Your pimples?
Micah: You know, my boobie bump things.
Me: 🀣
Pimples! You are adorable. They are called nipples.
Micah: I like pimples. That's what I'm calling them.
Me: okay, then.

October 31, 2021
(while I was in Gianna's room cuddling her at bedtime comforting a cough)
Me: I'm sorry you don't feel well.
Gianna: My throat feels like there's something stuck in it. It's like I'm a stuffed animal that's been stomped on. That's exactly how I feel.
Me: Wow, you really do feel awful!

November 1, 2021
Micah: What are these called again? (pointing to his nipples as he was dressing after his shower.)
Pimples?

November 29, 2021
Gianna had stayed home sick from school and we were driving home from a very necessary post-Thanksgiving grocery shopping trip.
[looking up at the car radio screen that read: 95.5 religious music]
Gianna: {confused} says: RIDICULOUS MUSIC???

Micah's Broken Elbow

On Saturday, April 4th, Mommy and you kids were outside playing while Daddy was preparing dinner. Micah and Gianna were using brooms as swords; knocking them together, running with them, and holding them while they were riding on scooters. I said, "Brooms aren't meant for doing that. Put them away! This is a great way to get really hurt." (that last sentence haunts me, honestly, as Micah would soon get very hurt moments later.) Gianna listened immediately. Micah pretended to listen and when I went into the garage to sweep the dried-mud, he went back to playing with the broom. I heard a horrific cry and when I ran out of the garage, I saw him laying on the concrete in a way that I had a deep sense that something was very wrong. I immediately scooped him up and he was grabbing onto his arm. When I looked down at it, I could see it didn't look right. It looked crooked and floppy. The way he was clutching it for dear life and the agonizing cry proved he had broken it. Daddy was arguing with me that he didn't break it, but I knew. I just knew. So, Daddy took you to urgent care. Briella called Papa and Nonna and they were over in 20 minutes and I was able to join you and Daddy at the urgent care. My heart was absolutely breaking over how much pain and discomfort you were in and Daddy had to experience you getting your Xrays; which, he says, was traumatic. Let me tell you, though, once that splint was put on your arm, you were no longer in pain and even said, "I want to go home now!"

Keeping you from falling on your splinted arm was no easy task on Sunday, but we managed to do it. The phones were down until 11:30am on Monday, but they finally called us to get you in for a 2:30 appointment. You got your blue cast the day before your 4th birthday at Akron Children's Hospital.

I've got to give you so much credit, Micah. Besides crying during the wait to get your splint, you have gone on with life as though nothing has happened to you. Your adaptability and bounce back during all of this has been so impressive to all of us! Briella has even commented on how impressed she is by it and she's not sure she'd be so brave and not complain. She was like a personal nursemaid to you during your 36 hours with a splint. It was so precious!

I'm not going to lie, I enjoyed spoiling you that next morning with breakfast in front of the TV {which I NEVER do!}.

But you weren't eating your waffle. When Briella came down after waking up, she noticed it and took it upon herself to try to help remedy that issue. πŸ’ŸπŸ’“

Corona (COVID-19) Homeschool Chronicles

Homeschooling Week 1: March 16-20, 2020
Our nation has undergone an unprecedented shutdown that I've never seen or experienced in my lifetime. I know this is going to be historical one day. Every parent in Ohio, and many other states, are being thrust into homeschooling  and quarantine (no church, no movies, no restaurants); whether they like or not. And, I'm not going to lie, I hardly slept the night that the Governor issued this homeschool mandate as I felt completely unprepared for such an undertaking. But, here I am, the first official day of this "new normal" feeling a Supernatural calm and peace that only comes from The Lord.
This past Friday was our 'test run' day and, I'm happy to report, it went well. We read from the Bible, and we had learning stations using the computer for math, books for reading, and crafting for art. We stood and recited the pledge, went outside after lunch for recess (we were blessed with a windy/mild day), and practiced social responsibility of waiting our turn when others talked. Emphasis on the word "practiced." πŸ˜…Your Dad and I used our extra Sunday morning time to do some food prep. I made my waffles and your Dad made his YUMamazing gluten free bread.

I don't have the school packets yet so our focus this morning has been on how to implement education into life skills. For example, we practiced writing by addressing envelopes and writing notes of encouragement to loved ones. We sent letters to a sick friend at church, Uncle Nick, our neighbor, and a Great Uncle and Aunt. Tomorrow we'll have a lesson in home economics when we bake cookies, a lesson in serving when we share dinner with a neighbor, as well as completing school lessons.

Gianna wrote (and drew) this all.by.herself! It just about made my heart burst to know she thought our homeschool day was "the best day." πŸ’“πŸ’–πŸ’πŸ’ŸπŸ₯°

Gianna is turning into quite the good reader. Watching her write and listening to her read at a young 5 years old impresses me!

It wasn't even a day into homeschooling that Briella took off with the encouragement letters. Today, she wrote up two letters, stuffed, and addressed the envelopes without my help. In fact, telling me, "You can look away, Mommy. You can walk away, Mommy." 🀣😒
And Micah entertaining himself with puzzles, cutting, computer games, and imaginative play has been such a help to me. He's growing up as well!

Well, we've gotten through the hump of our first homeschooling week and it's now Thursday. Do you want to know the funny, ironic, and most emotional part of Gianna's day yesterday? Well, let me preface it by saying the whole nation is in a "Prepper's panic" buying out all kinds of daily items such as toilet paper and cleaning supplies because of this virus. Well, yesterday, Gianna became very obsessive with using immense amounts of toilet paper (just for peeing, mind you) that she actually clogged up the toilet. We avoided an overflow by a centimeter, no exaggeration. I had to plunge and gave her very specific instructions that a pee break doesn't require more than 3 squares. Nothing I didn't say before this toilet paper hoarding wars of 2020. Well, she left the door wide open while she was using the bathroom and Micah runs to me to tattle that she had a pile of toilet paper in her hands. 🀦❓So, I went into the bathroom and, sure enough, we counted together, she had 25 squares of toilet paper to wipe herself of pee. So, I sternly had to ask her why and remind her of how many to use. She literally wailed in tears over my talk with her. She finished washing her hands, opened the door and was still crying and I asked if she was crying because she got caught or because she thought I was disappointed. She said it was because she thought I was disappointed. 😟 So, we hugged it out and the moment was over. She went on to use the bathroom more times and proudly would say, "I'm only using 3 squares this time, Mom!" But, seriously, in the panic over toilet paper in the nation right now, I could hardly believe that our *most emotional* moment of our entire day was over....dun, dun, dun...--toilet paper of all things! πŸš½πŸ˜…

Yesterday, salons were closed down and indoor banking is closed; one must only use the drive through option. It seems every day another closing happens. Great Grandpa is actively dying and in the hospital. Nonna is the only person allowed to see him, as they aren't allowing but 1 visitor. This is a very sad time for so many, for so many different reasons, and on so many different levels.

Today wasn't as "smooth" as the previous days. Gianna and Micah were both weirdly emotional (tired, I think?) so they were sent to their rooms and the flow was interrupted a bit. Thankfully, Briella, was "on point" and such a helper.
It seems we've found our flow again today with some early bedtimes for Gianna and Micah last night. Briella and I, on the other hand, were up for many hours through the night because she had a stomachache so she and I are going to be tired tonight!
I'm glad to report the final day of our first week of homeschool ends on a good note. If all goes according to plan, I'll be visiting Grandpa tonight. My Mom says she doesn't think it's long before he goes...😒

Me and the girls were sitting doing school when I realized we were all wearing gray on this unusually warm (64 degree) day!

Homeschooling Week 2: March 23-28, 2020
This morning started as a hazy, rainy beginning to the school week. But, you know what? We woke up healthy and that sparks all kinds of thankfulness within me these days. The kids are sleeping later and longer into the morning and I am experiencing an unusual quiet time each day because of it. I'd say we're all winning in that area right now.

We are heading into this week somber with the passing of my Grandpa yesterday afternoon. Jim and the kids said their goodbyes from the window, as kids were not allowed in his room due to the COVID-19 virus. I had the privilege of being by his bedside to embrace his body as his soul drifted into eternity.

We'll be traveling into Bellevue, OH sometime this week for a "burial only" service, as the COVID-19 mandates no gatherings right now. (and yesterday, the Governor ordered a "Stay-at-home" policy in effect until reevaluation on April 6th.)

Today is another chilly day so we were not able to get outside for recess, but I give the kids so much credit for being as flexible, adaptable, and imaginative as they can during this "stay at home" mandate. Considering all of that, they are doing so well.

Papa and Nonna came over with Nonna's homemade meatballs last night. So it was nice to spend some time with them considering all that my Mom is feeling so new into Grandpa's passing.

Gianna's "Topic Tuesday" picture to share on her online class homework.

This week, Gianna is learning how to tell time and Briella is learning about heat sources as well as dividing shapes. So far, we're doing okay!

Bible Reading Time πŸ’•πŸ’–πŸ’žπŸ’

The kids got a response letter from Uncle Tom with $2.00 bills and they were sooooo very excited over it! It was so awesome of him just to write back. They really loved it!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Homeschooling Week 3 March 30-April 3
I definitely lost my flow in keeping up with the blog last week once Grandpa's funeral happened; especially since we took the day off of school that day. Gianna finished the week strong with learning about telling time. She's now requesting a digital clock in her bedroom so she knows what time it is when she's in her room.

The kids are having their morning break from part one of homeschool. This week is going to be much more laid back, in regards to school workload, than the two previous weeks, based on the lessons the teachers have given the girls. It's pretty much a review week for them both with next week being spring break.

Yesterday, President Trump announced that this 'stay home order' will remain in effect until April 30th and Governor Dewine said no school until May1. At this rate, the kids won't be going back to school this year. I keep thanking God we haven't gotten sick and, obviously, pray that we don't.

All in all, we're already into the 3rd week of this and it isn't horrible whatsoever for us. There's been incidence here and there (mostly between Micah and Gianna πŸ™„), but in the grande scheme of all of this, it's been 'smooth sailing' overall. Did I just shoot myself in the foot for actually writing that down? πŸ₯Ί I'll be sure to update if there's a change {I hope not!}.

One thing is for sure is my tiredness! Last week I boasted about how all of the kids were sleeping in each morning, but no exaggeration whatsoever when I say that the very next day, Micah was awake at 6:30am and has been waking up early every morning ever since. The sun is beginning to rise earlier each day and his circadian rhythm reminds him it's daylight. So, needless to say, my quiet mornings to pray and gather my thoughts to prepare for these longs days seem to be no more.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today is now Wednesday, April 1 (April Fools Day) and the kids are continuing on a good trajectory, but I've been ridiculously tired. Our neighbor shared this photo on facebook and I'm definitely considering doing it as a joke today. Briella will get it, but Gianna probably won't, but will be funny to see their individual reactions.

Your Great Uncle Tom sent me these memes and they are too funny to not share:

Who says I can't teach cosmetology as a homeschool lesson?! 🀣 4-2-2020
The girls were such excellent helpers and encouragers.
Micahs' COVID haircut video footage: (courtesy of Gianna & Briella)
Later in the evening on 4-2-2020, Gianna would attempt to ride her bike without training wheels and did very well!
And because we were missing Papa & Nonna, we did a video chat. We haven't done one of these in a loooong time!

On Friday, 4-3, we baked a grain free cookie to get some much needed Home Economic skills incorporated into our regiment and to kick off our weekend for something sweet to eat. Not having had a Tollhouse cookie in a decade, these were decadent for grain free cookies. Here's to hoping that I don't have a reaction to the almond butter, as I haven't eaten it in over a year, but the kids really enjoyed them.
Mix all 5 ingredients in a bowl, form small round balls, and bake at 350 degrees for 9-10 minutes.  They will be soft when you take them out and will harden a bit when they cool-- be careful not to over bake them.

Ingredients:

1 Cup of Chocolate Chips

1 Cup of Almond Butter

1 Cup of Light Brown Sugar

1 Egg

1/2 Teaspoon Baking Soda

It's almost lunchtime and the kids are finishing up their morning tv "down time" (aka: "Mommy time"). Both girls' teachers have delivered their school work for when spring break is over. It's a beautifully sunny day already so looks like a fun day of outdoor play is in store for us!
Week 3 complete!!

Spring Break Homeschool Week 4: April 6-10
I am writing this on Saturday, April 11th, the day after a whole week off of school. Can I say that me and the kids needed a break from school work. Not that we're doing a "lot", it's hard, or even that stressful, but it was just nice to go about our days a little more freely. Though, I must admit, by mid-week not having a routine (and some snow) was making the days loooong.

Last Saturday, we were excitedly heading into spring break when all eagerness for anything fizzled because Micah broke his elbow. The following day, on Sunday, Jim got a phone call that his Grandma Molnar died. Micah elbow guilt + anxiety + Grandma sadness= heaviness! πŸ’”πŸ’”
Monday, April 6th Micah got his official blue cast. What a weird situation going into Akron Children's having to get our temperatures taken, wearing masks, and sanitizing everywhere we went. This whole virus world just feels eerie sometimes!

Tuesday, April 7th Micah celebrates his 4th birthday. He received beautiful gifts sent in the mail from the Maxwell's, honks and texts from neighbors, and a birthday serenade from the Laino and Puertas family. We took an afternoon family drive to pick up a laptop for Nonna and Micah napped. πŸ₯³ We finished the day with a visit from Papa and Nonna, complete with a homemade-with-love from Nonna Sheriff Callie cake πŸŽ‚πŸ’™, playtime with his new motorized motorcycle that they gifted him, Five Guys that they treated us for dinner and a FaceTime with Uncle Nick. What a day full of love!

**later that evening**
I went to bed without a clue that a storm was due to come. I woke up to pelting sounds against our window accompanied by heavy, high winds. I looked at my phone and saw this text below: "Tornado warning. A tornado is imminent." and shot out of bed. Less than 90 seconds of reading that text, the lights flickered and the electricity was out.

Wednesday, April 8th I awoke to find that the electricity was still out and we had no running water. After morning sponge baths using bottled water warmed up on our gas stove (thanks to a match), we took a drive to access the damage in the surrounding area and to get some drive thru lunch from Chick Filet. It was a beautifully sunny 68 degree day. But there were trees down all around and this particular trunk was tangled up in an electric line on Medina Line Road.

After getting home from Chick Filet:
Trying to salvage our most "valuable" refrigerator foods by putting it on ice.

Picnicking outside because, well, there was no point in being inside without running water or electricity. Plus, Daddy was gone all afternoon trying to figure out the generator issue and it was day 1, 250 (okay, okay, a month) of trying to keep you all occupied every hour of the day and I'm losing ideas!
Then Micah got hot from being in the sun and seeing him without a shirt and a cast was too cute.
And at 4:55pm, 16 hours into no electricity, Jim rigged a borrowed generator to power up our house. {thanks to our sweet friends, The Puertas Family, for asking their parents if we could borrow their generator--we did NOT ask them to do this}. We felt so fortunate that they took a chance on people they didn't know to let us use their generator. It may have been a small, simple act for them but it was a huge help to us! I was so proud of Jim for figuring that out.
Thursday, April 9th
It snowed! Needless to say, we were inside most of the day except for when Daddy made a trip to the grocery store and I dropped a thank you letter in the mail to Angie's parents for letting us borrow their generator.

Friday, April 10th
Woke up to a blanket of snow on the ground and Gianna wanted to brush my hair. Yes, please.

I got my hair brushed by the very talented (and gentle touch) Gianna!
[And a shout out to Daddy for taking these pictures and later surprising me with them. We moms don't get many of these kinds of candid moments and they really mean a lot when they're captured. 😍πŸ₯°]

We read about Good Friday from the Bible and created Cross Easter Eggs.

Saturday, April 11th
Daddy requested his COVID haircut: a mohawk. He's rocking it!

Tomorrow is Easter Sunday and we will conduct our own service. Daddy and I already stuffed all of the Easter eggs to a do a hunt after our church time and the weather is supposed to be in the 60's so we're going to have a great day celebrating the Resurrection of our Savior!
{but we'd lose power again from 2:30 until 7pm because of a transformer on fire}.

Homeschool Week 5: April 13-17
April 13th "Technically" today would've still been a day off of school so we used that as an excuse to bring some color and beauty into our home, since we're going to be made to stay home for another few weeks. It was a very calming and enjoyable activity to do together. πŸ’–✙

Tuesday: This is just worth keeping because it's an amazing visual for Language Arts and the other as a reminder for me, as "Teacher Mom":

I've got to figure out
how to program
the correct date on my cuff

Today, I'm tired. Yesterday I was 'flattened' by evening, literally. My blood pressure was really low all day (I could just feel it), but by 6:00, I could hardly stand up and I pretty much collapsed into bed. After 45 minutes of lying down, I thought to take my blood pressure and it was 90/57 so, question is, what was it before those 45 minutes? And, usually, the day after such lows I am very tired and continue to experience lows and today was no different from that pattern.
I didn't get any school time pictures today because I felt like I was back and forth, back and forth. One girl doing one thing on a computer, another girl watching a lesson on another computer, Micah sometimes being too involved in what one was doing and, other times, being independent. Today started the beginning of a more 'digital/online' approach so there was a lot more computer usage today; which means, I was juggling two different grade levels, two different lessons, two different computers, two different everything...well, 3 if you add Micah into it. 😬 Late afternoon, we went to Grandma Molnar's burial site for Jim to say his goodbyes. {The picture of the car rearview mirror is the best I could get of him and his sister, Sarah, paying their respects while I stayed in the car with the kids}. It was another chilly day so we didn't go outside to play so it just felt like an exceptional looooong, drawn out day on top of all my low blood pressure tired.
The kids recount of Corona Virus
Wednesday:
Today I was still really tired, shaky, and feeling low blood pressure, (I must be a bad 'flare' for some reason right now), but I learned from yesterday and we were in a much better groove with our new remote learning model. Micah even enjoyed a Kindergarten lesson from Mrs. Hoerger. 😍😻It's been another chilly day with snow even falling.

Who says Kindergarten lessons are just for Kindergartners? Micah loved watching Mrs. Hoerger!
Micah: my kinesthetic learner, counting by 10's

Thursday: Briella had her first video chat (via Zoom) with her teachers and classmates today. She thoroughly enjoyed it. The Kids and I made a German inspired cake, that turned out more like a brownie, but nonetheless, it was sugary sweet and very tasty. πŸ˜‹

Afternoon crafting
Briella got a response letter from her classmate, Clara. She was excitedly reading it here. πŸ’—

Friday: Snow! It's snowing today. 😳😫All day of snow. This has not been a great week of weather whatsoever. We've hardly had any outdoor play. Today I'm highly unmotivated by it all and I'm not even going to pretend I'm not! And on that note, it's time for me to call it a day with blogging and get a couch nap while they watch some TV. πŸ˜‰
The kids also got a response letter from Uncle Nick and he sent money too. They were really happy to hear from him and this is the thank you movie we sent to him. It was such a sweet gesture for him to write back!

Homeschool Week 6: April 20-24, 2020
Monday: I think I'm finally catching on to this remote learning model. I'm someone who intentionally tries not to use a *lot* of technology in our lives so knowing we had to rely on computers to complete school work caused me some apprehension last week. But after experiencing its helpfulness and figuring out a balance with my computer and a Surface Jim had from work, it's been a good balance for the girls' school work.

Today, Governor Dewine officially announced that gathering back into a school room will not happen for the remainder of this year and continued remote learning will be the method. He even went on to say that there is no decision for reopening in the fall and that will be addressed as this pandemic continues to show its trend.
We are continuing with our letter writing to family and friends. Not shown is a letter to Grandpa Ron.
It took 5 weeks into the "pandemic", but Daddy ordered masks for all of us and they came in the mail this past weekend.
I am in awe of how well Gianna is reading and demonstrating more and more confidence in doing it. Just a mere couple months ago, asking her to "read to me" would send her into a panic.

This moment was authentically sweet as Gianna was intently studying Briella's math lesson, and then, Briella invited her over to sit with her.

Another bedtime Facetime with Papa & Nonna
Tuesday:

Dancing along to Mrs. Morek's happy Tuesday jig.

Gianna listening to a phonics lesson and Briella working on a borrowing math lesson.

I'm so thankful for these moments that he occupies himself during his sister's school time. It doesn't always happen this way, but when it does, it's sooooo pleasant! But, apparently, I still need to be cautious when he's quiet as I let him do scissor cutting at the table. When I was wiping his shirt at dinnertime, I saw evidence of hair pieces and, sure enough, he took a chip chop of his hair. 🀦 Jim said, "Only you would see a few stray hairs!" Yep, Mommy Forensics. Kids, I will find out!

Briella is learning subtracting with borrowing and Gianna is learning how to count money this week.
Another Briella "encouragement letter" warms a friend's heart. πŸ’–πŸ’“πŸ’

I'd be lying if I didn't say that yesterday's official statement from the Governor didn't cause me all kinds of thoughts and feelings. It also didn't help that the latter afternoon consisted of Micah having both a pee and poop accident within 45 minutes of one another. ❓⁇ ¿﹖?Combine this with Briella being an extrovert, who doesn't have a social outlet; therefore, obsessing over the same topics every day with NON-STOP talking, Gianna and Micah's hot and cold relationship, my continued low blood pressure moments, extreme fatigue, and near empty gas tank most days. I'm completely in agreement with the Governor with his decision, but I'm just tired so the thought of doing these loooooong, repetitive days until the fall is a lot to 'digest' right now. Needless to say, I asked Jim for some alone time last night and when he and the kids continued to play in the house, I went for a much needed walk.

So, I've been fairly positive until now. But I'm reaching a boiling point this week from not feeling well, cooped up, no escapes, homeschool pressures all on me, and, needless to say, this all just proves to me how deeply my emotions are brewing inside of me right now.

I'm tired, kids. I'm literally running on low blood pressure and fumes every day and all day for weeks straight now, but I will do as much as I can for you. Sadly, though, some days "as much as I can" may be the bare minimum or lots of sitting and watching you. My prayer is that you see that you feel my love, you see my interest, encouraged by my smiles and hugs, and notice my proximity. Somedays that's "as much as I can do", and you're so compassionate toward me. It humbles me to be so loved by you all.
One of the moments that I *needed* to sit down. I put on some music, you danced, I smiled, and we all were happy 😍
Wednesday: Sometimes you just have to have fun in the school day and this craft was a success:

Thursday:
This sums up attention and energy levels this morning during school time. Truthfully, if I wasn't already so dizzy, I think I would've joined them because upside down IS the mood these days. 😜

FINALLY, we were able to get outside today! It was healing for my soul and body just to get some fresh air. I can't imagine how nice it felt for the kids. They played on their swing set (though, incredibly muddy--blah) and we took a mile lap around the neighborhood.
And I had to screenshot a text I got from a school mom friend. I love the pen pal relationship that Briella is continuing with a classmate. Every day she excitedly retrieves the mail in anticipation of a response letter. It proves that the little moments and little acts of love truly do make the biggest impressions.
And, shhhh, don't tell Micah that we have game nights after he goes to sleep. Sorry, Micah. I haven't thought to take pictures until tonight, but I'm glad I did. And see your Dad's scheming smile? Yep, he faked me on a Hands Down right as the flash went off; little sneak!
Friday:

Reading time with this Rockstar Reader! Do you want to know the most undeserving, honrable thing she said to me yesterday (as well as reiterating it in her bedtime prayer). She said, "I look up to you so much, Mom. I really do. I look up to you. I want to be just like you." πŸ₯°πŸ₯°
Goodness, how do I even live up to such an amazing statement? All I know, I'll try!
